Born in Kampala, Uganda on the 27 August 1975, David Kigozi graduated with a diploma in secondary Education from Kyambogo Institute of Education (ITEK) majoring in Art in1998. David started his career at the tender age of 14 and developed a love for art in his last two classes in Secondary level.

He says that his sister, Maria Naita also a painter and sculpture, was a great inspiration to him. They work in the same studio known as Kann Studios in Mutundwe – Natete.

Though David is an art teacher by profession he never got involved in class room teaching and decided to turn his talents to a freelance artist He uses various media for his artworks ranging

from bronze, copper, fiberglass and wood for sculptures and paintings oil, acrylics both on canvas and sometimes incorporated with bark cloth, seeds, and raffia.

His works span from abstract, figurative and playful. David appreciates nature and his surrounding environment and mostly his works are based on day to day activities (life). Through art David expresses his emotions and portrays them to the art world through various techniques.

He uses thick brilliant colors with a quite tone that blend perfectly with the abstract designs and themes. While painting he uses a brush, pallet knife and sometimes his bear fingers to come up with a desirable texture. Mostly his paintings have composition of birds, livestock and children totally based on the challenges of life. He opts for these themes in his subject because they rejuvenate his childhood memories and day to day life, David mentions that his parents were small scale farmers who used to keep animals like goats and chicken at home which is why they keep reflecting in his paintings as part of the subject.

David has exhibited widely in galleries in Kampala, such as at Nommo Gallery, Tulifanya, Design and Aidcdhild galleries. David has also exhibited outside of Uganda –in Kenya, Tanzania, Amsterdam and in Germany.

David has also been commissioned to do different works for organizations and government bodies. These include a recently unveiled monument at Kabamba Military Barracks Feb 2007, Monument in the Rwanda State House, Mural paintings at Center for Disease Control Entebbe. Private commissions include Emin Pasha Hotel and World Bank offices in Kampala.

David is a beacon on the Uganda art scene.
