Dear Reader December - January 2008

Dear Reader,

The year 2007 saw a lot of change for a lot of people. – some good and some bad, but change all the same. On our side, the Eye staff complement went from six to two, I had two very personal losses, Uganda transformed itself in preparation for the CHOGM and recently, the Mvule tree that we featured on our June-July 2007cover was chopped down. After all our wonderful Articles on trees all that remains is the tree stump. The tree was in the cemetery on the Lugogo-Bypass and we cannot think of any reason why all the trees in the cemetery have been chopped down since a wall was erected around the site.

(The Photo featured at the bottom of the page is of the Mvule and to the right, a photo of the stump). Welcome to the last issue of 2007 and the first issue of 2008, the Dec-Jan Issue. In this issue Simon Wilson Stephens travels Africa in his recount of Henry Morton Stanley’s Trans Africa Expedition in 1874. The Ssissa Shooting Club reopens its doors after being revamped, a visit to the Hairy Lemon in Jinja is worth taking time out to visit and James Acworth’s Tall Stories features the mighty Mvule.
