Sports and Outdoors : Jet Boating with Adrift

Powered by a 7400 CC Chevrolet petrol engine, the system generates 450 horsepower and pumps 22000 litres of water per minute through the back of the boat. This gives the JET boat a top speed of 90 kms per hour – a
formidable speed on water. The key issue of the JET boat, is without conventional propellers and rudders, it can operate in as little as 6 inches of water. The steering is also based on manoeuvring the rear end water jet – This makes the boat highly responsive and steering easy.
In essence, there is a massive water pump in the hull that makes the jet boat incredibly fast in areas where no traditional power boat can venture – up and down the rapids.

So, big deal – you have a fast boat and can fly across the water – a traditional speed boat can also do that!! That’s where the fun comes in.

The JET BOAT is sensational across the water and is as exciting as a roller coaster. Gav, our pilot took us through some twists and turns to get the feel of the Jet Boat and gave us specific signals on when to hang back and when to lift our bums off our seats – when Gav felt we were ready – he took us through the real process (there are hand signals from the pilot to let you know when he will spin the boat and when the ride is going to
get bumpy). If you have ever done a hand brake turn on a murram road, the process of spinning the boat is similar, but faster and way better. The best part is going through the rapids – the boat gets airborne and the excitement (Or could it be downright fear?) as you fly over the rapids, shoots through the smallest spaces, narrowly missing rocks and then seeing the boat can be stopped (in a spin) in the smallest space takes some balls. At first I was ready to hop right off when the bailout opportunity came, but because none of
the woman wanted out, there was no chance I was getting off.

At the end of the trip, I was wishing we could have had another 10 minutes on the boat, eager to try some bigger rapids - Gav chickened out of shooting Bujagali Falls – softy!)

The Jet Boat is run by ADRIFT from their base camp in Jinja on the Nile River. The cost to go on the Jet Boat is 75USD per person for a 30 minute ride. Corporate and tailored packages are available on request.

If you fancy a whole day of Adventure sports then our suggestion would be to do the Threesome (Jet Boating, Whitewater Rafting and Bungee Jumping).
The cost of the threesome is 250 USD per person. It’s simply awesome.
