Restaurant Review : Lotus Mexicana

Hot towels were provided for us to freshen up whilst enjoying our drinks.

The menu has a lot to offer in the way of choice and one can start with “little things to share” like the Smoked Salmon Ceviche w/ Asian dressing (smoked salmon, mango, avocado and pickled onions with a light gingery vinaigrette) for 10,500 Ush, or the fresh corn tortilla chips with a Lotus signature spicy salsa for 4,500. The tortilla chips can be accompanied by either the Guacamole at 5,500 Ush, the Queso (melted cheese, chilli and tomato for 7,500 Ush or the spicy beef and a dollop of guacamole for 9,500 Ush.
There are a variety of healthy salads and tasty homemade soups to choose from. The main meals featured in the “bigger things to share” menu are abundant and include meals like Szechwan Steak (200g marinated beef fillet topped with Asian sauce served on a bed of cilantro (15,500 Ush), Tequila marinated 5 spice grilled pork chops (14,500 Ush), Refried Bean Burrito’s with either Roasted Chicken (14,500 Ush), Spicy Beef (15,500 Ush), or Pad Thai Prawn and Hoisen Sauce (17,500 Ush) can be had. Mexican food is all about sharing so it’s a good idea to order one or two of the side dishes to accompany your main meal. Some of the side dishes include plantain fried rice with guacamole, Mexican rice, Thai Chilli plantains and wasabi peas, to name but a few.

The desserts are mouth-watering and an absolute must-have is the toasted coconut ice cream balls with cajeta caramel –they are really good. There is Baked Cheesecake, Vanilla Flan Caramel and frozen Dulce de Leche Tiramisu which are all really divine.

My favourites have got to be the frozen margaritas and martini’s that are on offer. Aside from which you can order Margarita Rocks, Lotus Pink Martini (absolute raspberry, strawberries and Ice with Chocolate Rum) or the Mexi-Tini (Iced tequila, orange juice and vanilla vodka).

Only the finest seasonal organically grown fruit and vegetables and meat are served at Lotus. All of the herbs used are grown in the back garden and are all pesticide free. Lotus serves food in Tapas and Dim Sum fashion….family style!

I do have one criticism of the restaurant though and that is that the food doesn’t come out of the kitchen all together. I found that while two of my guests had received their food, mine only arrived 5 minutes later.

Eating at Lotus Mexicana Cantina is value for money, the meal portions are big, the food is flavourful and very tasty and there is a really good vibe about the place. It is definitely worth trying out.
