Ssisa Shooting Club

History

The Club was founded in 1991 on 60 acres of land off the Kampala-Entebbe Road, privately owned by Nari Patel.

At the early stages, clay pigeon shooting took place using manual traps and standing on rocky outcrops!!! Early shooters at the club were just Kampala based friends who arrived on Sunday mornings armed with cooler boxes with cold drinks and snacks, shot and promptly rushed off to the Entebbe Sailing Club for lunch and a well earned beer.

In 1995, a decision was made by Nari to develop the club into something more permanent and as a consequence a major construction project began, to erect a club house (with walk-in fireplaces!!!!), bar, commercial kitchen, public toilets and thatched cottages. The shooting side also improved with the building of a measured shooting platform, the importation of a professional automatic ball trap and some manual traps together with state of the art shotguns. The disciplines covered were trap, skeet and sport shooting. The club has since continued to develop and today it boasts a club house on 2 floors with large comfortable seats for the spectators, commercial kitchen, 6 en suite thatched cottages, all offering breathtaking views over 50 kms of African landscape and a 200 degree view of the Lake Victoria. Being located at the top of a high ridge, the air is fresh and the breeze comes straight off the Lake so at times a jumper is necessary!

Being only 45 minutes drive from Kampala and 35 minutes from Entebbe, the club has been a venue for weddings, corporate and diplomatic retreats and has regularly hosted events such as ‘the Woodstock revival’, private functions and the annual ‘turkey shoot’.

The club is shortly introducing quad and mountain bikes for visitors keen on exploring the vast tracks on the country lanes around the club. People wishing to walk in the countryside can also take advantage of the club’s location. Shooting takes place once a fortnight, therefore at all other times it is a perfect venue for those wishing to get away from the pollution, the hustle and the bustle of Kampala to enjoy the peace and quiet offered at the club.

Facilities available
6 en-suite thatched cottages all with their own en-suite bathrooms boasting hot and cold running water and flushing toilets
A club house on 2 floors
Commercial kitchen capable of catering for up to 150 people

Why go there? Location, location, location!
The club is situated at the end of a high ridge offering breathtaking views over African landscape and rural countryside setting. It is very peaceful and extremely quiet (you can hear your heart beat here!!!)

For relaxation; Come and relax, feel the pulse of nature, see the birds and enjoy the views. Bring a book and a jumper along. For Group visitors, Ssissa club can offer the services of a professional Reflexologist at the club.
Explore the country side, bring your walking boots and walk along the country lanes and enjoy the rural setting.
If you enjoy shooting, try out the clay pigeon shooting range or the indoor pistol range. The club has all the necessary equipment.

Most important of all, nearly all the vegetables used at the club are grown on the land. Go along and enjoy the gourmet food prepared by their resident ex patriot chef.
Since the club is located off the beaten track, they are able to arrange a pick up service for individuals or groups from Kampala and Entebbe.
